10. My kids
For real. If by reading numbers 1-9, you haven’t figured out that I made A LOT of mistakes during our first year of homeschooling, then let me just say it loud and clear. I made A LOT of mistakes during our first year of homeschooling. I look back at some of things we did, or tried to do and I shake my head. Reading back through the daily plans and checklists I wrote makes my brain hurt. My kids were MVPs through it all. They were always willing to offer ideas when I asked them what they thought we needed to do differently. Every time we’d try something new, they would give it a shot. I think about the changes they went through from the day we told them we’d homeschool until 12 months later, and it baffles me. We completely upended their education, social life, and home life all at once, with one decision. While I am firm in my belief that it was the right decision, I cannot help but realize the level of trust it took for them to go along with it. They were willing to make new friends, try new things and push through all the adjustments right along with me. They inspire me to do better and be better.
